Their finished toys can be hung on the Christmas tree, displayed in their room, or placed around the home during the festive season.

This course has a different rhythm from the Vase and Landscape projects. Instead of working on one object throughout all four lessons, children will create several smaller toys. This gives them more freedom to try different shapes, colours, combinations, and sewing ideas.

The children will not be expected to reproduce one identical collection. Each of them can decide what they would like to make and how their Christmas toys will look.

The result will be more than a set of objects made during a course. It will be a personal Christmas collection that can return to the tree, the child’s room, or the family home each year.

The Four-Week Creative Journey

  1. Week 1Ideas for Christmas

Children will explore ideas for their collection and draw the toys they would like to create. Their designs may be inspired by Christmas and winter shapes, familiar objects, animals, or ideas from their own imagination. They will choose colours and create simple templates for their first toys.

  2. Week 2Making the First Toys

The children will transfer their templates onto wool-blend felt sheets, cut out the different parts, and begin sewing their first toys. They will learn how to prepare the pieces and in which order the smaller details need to be attached.

  3. Week 3Adding New Ideas

As their collection grows, children will create new toys and experiment with different shapes, colour combinations, and stitched details. They can use what they have already learned while making new creative choices for each piece.

  4. Week 4Completing the Collection

During the final lesson, the children will complete their remaining toys, finish the stitching, and add hanging loops where needed. At the end of the course, each child will take home a personal collection of Christmas toys designed and made by them.
